Being told this prestigious award created me two deeply contradictory and totally incompatible feelings: first, a great joy for a late recognition energy of over 40 years of passionate and demanding to the dissemination of music as a force and language of civilization dedication and coexistence and at the same time, feel an immense sadness that I could not accept without betraying my principles and my most intimate convictions.
Therefore energy I regret to inform you that I can not accept this distinction, which is given by the hand of the main Spanish state institution responsible, in my opinion, the dramatic disinterest and gross incompetence in the defense and promotion of art and its creators. A distinction energy that comes from a Ministry of Education, Culture energy and Sports also responsible for maintaining forgotten an essential part of our culture, ancient Hispanic musical heritage and to belittle the vast majority of musicians with great sacrifices dedicate their lives to keep it alive.
It is true that in some rare occasions I was able to benefit, over more than 40 years of activity, some institutional collaboration: the celebration of the V centenary of the discovery of America, the small grants to international tours and invitations recent National Center Musical Broadcasting to present our projects in Madrid. But just as the vast majority of musicians and ensembles in the country, have gone on alone with my personal effort without ever having energy a stable production and realization of all my music institutional support projects. Too much time on the request of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports energy directs you still do not give the necessary impetus to the different disciplines of the cultural life of the Spanish State currently struggling to survive without institutional protection and patronage law that help, undoubtedly, financed and hold.
We live in a serious political, economic and cultural crisis as a result of which a quarter of Spaniards are very precarious situation and more than half of our young people do not have nor will have any chance of getting a job that ensures them a minimally decent life. Culture, Art, and especially music, are the basis of education that allows us to realize ourselves personally and, at the same time, be present as a cultural entity, in an increasingly globalized world. I am deeply convinced that art is useful energy to society, contributing to the education energy of young people, and raising and strengthening human and spiritual dimension of human beings. How many Spaniards have been some time in their lives, listen to live music from the sublime Cristobal de Morales, Francisco Guerrero and Tomás Luis de Victoria? Maybe a few thousand who have been privileged energy to attend a concert of the few festivals that programmed this type of music. But the vast majority, may never benefit from the fabulous spiritual energy transmitted the divine beauty of this music. Could we imagine a Museo del Prado in which all the old heritage is not accessible? energy Well this is what happens with the music as live music exists only when a singer or a musician sings touches, energy musicians are the real living museums of musical art. Ignorance and amnesia are the end of all civilization, because without education there is no art without memory there is no justice. We can not allow ignorance and lack of awareness of the value of the culture of those responsible for the highest levels of the government of Spain, with impunity erode the hard work of so many musicians, actors, dancers, filmmakers, writers and artists who hold the true banner of Culture and certainly do not deserve the treatment
