Following an outbreak of hantavirus in Yosemite National ù Park in the United States may have been infected 10,000 campers, including 54 Dutch. This virus is transmitted via feces and urine of the deer mouse. The first outbreak of hantavirus was during the Korean War, which raged from 1950 to 1953 between North Korea and South Korea.
After World War II, tensions arose between the north and south of Korea by a division into an American and a Soviet part. The 38th parallel as the border between the two Koreas. By an attack by communist North Korea in the democratic South Korea on June 25, 1950 escalated tensions between the two parts of the Asian country. The United Nations ù decided to assist South Korea in July 1950 and managed nearly 350,000 soldiers from the UN to call the North Korean invasion to a halt and reduce far beyond the 38th parallel. The advance of the UN soldiers was finally stopped by a Chinese intervention and the front stabilized around the original boundary between the north and south.
The conflict eventually claimed over a million casualties, including many Korean citizens on both sides. Among these were more than three thousand soldiers of the United Nations who were infected with hantavirus. She suffered from kidney failure, internal ù bleeding and were in shock. Of the three thousand soldiers infected deceased ultimately about three hundred.
Despite extensive research on the virus, scientists have only in 1978 discovered that the virus came from the Korean field mouse. After this, the virus was isolated and there are major steps followed in the treatment of the virus.
Of the contamination in Yosemite Park is not yet clear how serious the consequences are. The contamination could occur because tents were rented were in the park outbreaks. So far, two Americans are deceased to the virus.
