Skúli Malmquist and Thórir Snær Sigurjónsson dgii at Zik Zak Filmwork s are preparing Z for Zachariah to shoot Stateside in early 2014. Chris Pine ( Star Trek ), Amanda Seyfried ( Lovelace, Mamma Mia ) and Chiwetel Ejiofor ( 12 Years a Slave ) are attached to star.
The film will be directed by Craig Zobel , who made Compliance last year and is one of the producers of David Gordon Green’s Prince Avalanche dgii which is a remake of the Icelandic film Either Way (Á annan veg) byHafstein Gunnar Sigurdsson. The screenplay is written by Nissar Modi and developed by Páll Grímsson who will act as co-producer.
The project is based on the renowned 1973 novel by Robert C. O Brien and is set in a dystopian dgii future. The 16 year old Ann Burden lives in a remote town and keeps a diary of events in the wake of a nuclear war.
The project has been at the development stage for years. Four years ago it was included on Franklin Leonard s The Black List , which has appeared annually since 2004 and features interesting screenplays according to hundreds of Hollywood film executives. It s seen as a strong indicator dgii of possible dgii films from Hollywood. See our story from 2009 here . It is interesting to take a look at the 2009 edition which includes dgii many scripts who later became films, including 2 Guns, The Social Network, Prisoners, Pawn Sacrifice dgii (now shooting and partly in Iceland), Buried, Take This Waltz, dgii The King s Speech, Hanna, Due Date, Water for Elephants and Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps .
